New DIALux update as of March 2024
We are always ready to follow the latest developments in the lighting industry and keep everyone informed of changes that may affect their projects. Today we would like to talk about an upcoming change in DIALux, one of the most widely used software tools for designing, analyzing and visualizing lighting plans.
What will change?
Until now, DIALux evo could be used with member and non-member fixtures, but this will change as of March 1, 2024. As of this date, only members’ products are available in the free version of DIALux evo. This change affects all versions of DIALux.
DIALux made this decision to ensure the ongoing development of the program. This work is funded by the contributions of our 180 members. Unfortunately, Lixero is not currently one of these 180 members because of the high annual dues.
The goal of DIALux is to continually improve the program and make it more efficient. They want to achieve this by increasing membership. They see the limitation that the free version of DIALux has only member products as an opportunity to achieve this goal.
Not the end for non-members
DIALux fortunately understands that not all fixture manufacturers will become members right away. Therefore, they offer the opportunity to continue planning with all products. They do this with the new feature “Unlock Non-Members,” which allows you to use products from non-members. This feature can be purchased separately and is also part of the DIALux Pro version. So if you are already working with the Pro version, nothing will change for you.
No change for current projects
Existing projects are not affected by this change. Fixtures already imported from non-members can still be used in the current schedule. DIALux guarantees that a complete lighting plan with member products is possible at no additional cost. The basic functions of DIALux evo remain free of charge.
What does this mean to you?
If it’s not yet clear what this will mean for you or what DIALux will look like in the future? Then read on. We have already answered some for your questions.
- Which versions does this apply to?
- The change affects all versions of DIALux evo, including all older versions.
- What happens to existing projects that have products from non-members?
- Existing projects are not affected. So you can just continue working as usual with the fixtures already imported into respective lighting plan.
- What should you do to work with non-member IES/LDT files?
- There are two options. First of all, you can purchase the DIALux PRO version. Or you can choose to purchase the “Unlock non-members” feature separately.
- How much does this cost?
- The “Unclock non-members” feature is included in DIALux Pro, so there is no additional cost for that. To purchase the feature separately, you will pay €9.99 a month in Europe.
- How many manufacturer members does DIALux currently have?
- Currently, December 2023, DIALux has 180 manufacturer members. Including some brands of which we are official distributors, such as: Arkoslight, Molto Luce, Regiolux, and Zemper.
