Question

The construction team of the Ice Skating Center Mechelen (ISCM) asked us to give shape to the lighting design of the various rooms within the building. The large hall of the skating rink presented the greatest challenge. The lighting had to be cleverly built in so that it could switch between ambient and practical light at the touch of a button. The retail environment called for a lighting plan that made products excel. Locker rooms required practically waterproof fixtures that provided an uncluttered environment. Finally, the hospitality environment had to exude a welcoming feeling, with an emphasis on experience and atmosphere.

Challenge

Light has intense influence on how we feel, what we want and what decisions we make. Therefore, rooms with different uses also need different lighting plans. That said, of course, these spaces should flow seamlessly into each other.

Result

The most modern skating rink in Belgium is equipped with a beautiful lighting plan. The lighting is controllable via computer and applications, any atmosphere can be created at the touch of a button. The customer feels welcome in the ISCM. Practical lighting and mood lighting have been installed in the right places, ensuring optimal use of all departments at Ice Skating Center Mechelen.
