Comfort in an environmentally conscious way.
The original question from the Amadeus House was whether we could replace the existing light fixtures with LED lighting. Here it was important that there was sufficient light, since it was a restaurant that was being converted into a nursing home. A nursing home requires more light than a restaurant.
Based on this information, our account manager made his first visit to the Amadeus House. However, it was unfortunately not possible to just replace the existing light points with LED lighting. This was technically impossible but would also provide far too little light for a nursing home.
For this reason we created a special lighting plan for the target group, elderly people with dementia. Our light designer Harry Rijnders created the lighting plan. Here it was very important that there were few distractions in the lighting, this means creating an even light. For this reason, as few light points as possible were used (spotlights) and therefore no aspects are highlighted and there is an even light image. Despite the fact that uniform light is often unsociable, Harry was able to develop a lighting plan that created a cozy atmosphere.
Apply lighting for a special target group without modifying the existing installation too much.
Result
After a few revisions, the client agreed with the lighting plan after which it was implemented 1 to 1 (i.e., completely according to plan). Within the lighting plan, a two special things were applied:
1. People with dementia unconsciously follow patterns and/or lines. For this reason, our designer used long light lines from the bedrooms to the dining room. Thus, the lighting plan helps people (subconsciously) find the right way. Learn more in this article.
2. The installation to dim the lights was completely in the walls, so it was not available/useable without demolishing and/or breaking open the walls. For this reason, we applied a wireless dimming system. This allowed the current infrastructure to remain in place and all lighting to be controlled by the wireless dimming system. This was also a financial windfall in terms of electricity.
The Amadeus House has become a nursing home where people can live pleasantly, live and enjoy life.
