What is TM-30-15?

In the world of lighting, accurate color reproduction is critical. It not only affects the way we perceive colors, but also affects the and atmosphere. While the traditional CRI / Ra (Color Rendering Index) has long been used to measure color rendering, the introduction of TM-30-15 has set a new standard and introduced a more comprehensive and accurate approach.

TM-30-15

The TM30-15 is not simply a replacement for the (old) CRI / Ra. It is an improved and advanced method of measuring the color rendering of light sources. TM30-15 consists of several components and indexes that together provide a more comprehensive picture of how a light source renders colors.

RF value

One of the components of TM30-15 is the Rf value. This is similar to the traditional CRI / Ra, but with a substantial upgrade. Whereas CRI/Ra measures only 9 colors, Rf includes 99 colors. This provides a more accurate and complete picture of how the light source presents different colors. With RF, subtle variations in color reproduction become more apparent and a more realistic result is obtained.

Rg value

The Rg value, also known as Gamma Index, sheds light on the changes in color intensity and saturation of a light source. An Rg value of 100 indicates no change in saturation compared to the reference light source. A value greater than 100 indicates increased saturation, while a value less than 100 indicates decreased saturation.

Color vector diagram

The color vector diagram, a visual graphical representation, complements the TM30-15 method. In this, the reference light source is shown as a black circle. When a color of the light source falls outside this circle, it means an increase in saturation. On the other hand, if there is a shift within the circle, it means a decrease in saturation. This provides light designers, interior designers or architects with a direct and insightful overview of how specific colors are affected by the light source.

TM-30-15 Lixero

In practice

With the advent of TM30-15, the lighting industry has taken a step forward in understanding and evaluating color rendering. This method offers interior designers and architects a deeper understanding and more control over how lighting presents colors. At Lixero, we incorporate this new standard into our lighting plans and product selection to ensure projects have accurate and beautiful color reproduction. TM30-15 represents a promising future for the world of lighting, bringing colors to life like never before!
