Question

For Maresia Utrecht, we worked with King Kongs on a lighting concept that lets you move step by step from beach to sea. Upon entering the wine bar, the light is sandy and light-footed. Warm tones, soft shadows and high color rendering make wines and dishes look inviting. Subtle lighting along the bar and walls draws the textures without overdoing it, while directional spotlights make the glassware sparkle and point the route toward the restaurant naturally.

In the seafood section, the atmosphere sinks deeper into the evening. We chose a darker base image with controlled accents so that the raw and prepared fish come across as fresh and clean. The contrast between tables and background keeps the view calm and gives the setting an intimate sheen, even when it’s still light outside.

Challenge

For the fixtures, we chose Arkoslight, the perfect match for this project. Minimalist, stylish products with consistent light quality that blend effortlessly into the interior in both atmospheres. Emergency lighting is also provided and unobtrusively integrated, ensuring safety without disturbing the image.

Result

The transition between the two worlds is gradual. The color scheme shifts from warm and airy to cooler and deeper, while the light levels change with it in small steps. Maresia Utrecht has a layered lighting plan that not only lets wine and seafood shine, but above all supports togetherness, both at the table, at the bar and in between.
